DO YOU WANT TO PLAY AT POP & HISS?

Pop & Hiss is half Record Store / half Bar, with a large patio. We are an all-ages space, and we strive to appeal to as demographically diverse a crowd as we can. Typically we book acts that hover around the genres of country/Americana, jazz, indie rock/folk, singer-songwriter, Latin, reggae, and power pop. We have made exceptions for punk and harder rock, but those acts are booked more sparsely and reviewed with a little more scrutiny, as we are in sleepy Pacific Grove and the city has some specific rules we have to follow:

Bands play from 7-10pm
and We HAVE TO CLOSE at Midnight
Music shall be no louder than 90dbs
and no louder than 80dbs after 10pm
There is a DB reader on the wall.
everyone MUST STAY WITHIN THE DB CAP
or we will pull the plug.

These conditions are strictly enforced, and there is a police station a block away, just itchin' to bust us, if these rules are broken.

Further things to consider:

- Our little "stage" measures 7.5" high, and is 9 x 12'

- We have two (2) mains and two (2) monitors

- We do not allow outside PAs or sound tech, unless pre-approved

- Outside sound engineers are at the artist's expense

- Music is from 7pm and 10pm, with breaks

- We strongly prefer ONE act per night, but TWO acts are the MAX per bill

- Load-in/Sound check is typically two hrs before your set

- We ask that you do not play another venue on the Monterey Peninsula two weeks before OR after your date at Pop & Hiss; this is to encourage a healthy turnout and a financially robust event for us and you!

- Two Drink Tickets will be issued to each band member

- We pay a guarantee based on the size of act and the audience draw, which is paid out 7 business days from the date you play

- We have VERY limited space for gear / case storage---make room in your vehicle!

- We have no lodging, but can sometimes hook up a discounted hotel room rate---ask ahead of time

- All flyers must use a variation of our logo on them, and all social media posts/reels must use our branding elements / style guide to maintain consistency. Social media "collab" posts will not be approved if the post does not contain our branding / style format. Take a look at our Instagram to get an idea: @POPandHISS
